SHERYL LEE RALPH REMAINS COMMITTED TO CARIBEAN AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH
Jamaica diva and Hollywood denizen, Sheryl Lee Ralph recommitted to serving as Spokesperson for Caribbean American Heritage Month. Ms. Ralph was in Washington DC to collect the Community Empowerment Award at the National Coalition for Black Civic Participation's 11th Annual Spirit of Democracy Awards Gala on May 12, 2009. Ms. Ralph shared the stage and honors with two Caribbean American Heritage Awards Honorees, Susan Taylor, formerly of Essence and Congresswoman Barbara Lee.
Ms. Ralph who has been chalking up a lot of miles in pursuit of her two community passions, speaking out against the silence on HIV/AIDS and for the election of Barack Obama was visiting Washington for the second time in 2009. In January she hosted a Pre-InAugural Reception at the Embassy of Jamaica, flanked by her husband Vincent Hughes, State Senator of Pennsylvania who announced his own Caribbean roots ----St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
