CARIBBEAN AMERICAN TRIBUTE TO HOLLYWOOD AND THE ARTS RETURNS
Hollywood's Caribbean connections will bring out the stars with the line-up for the 2009 Tribute to Hollywood and the Arts. The beautiful Nia Long with roots in Trinidad; Frank Flowers - Hollywood's hot new director who hails from the Cayman Islands; and the incomparable micro- sculptor Willard Wigan are set to be honored at the star studded gala set for June 27th in Los Angeles.
Under the leadership of ICS Regional Program Board Representative, Marva Herman, the President of Caribbean Heritage Organization will host the Second Tribute to Hollywood and the Arts. The Biennial event first honored the legendary Suzanne DePasse who unknown to many is of Jamaican heritage.
The Gala will take place on the lawns of the UCLA Campus. Up and coming Jamaican actress Shauna Chin will share hosting duties with
Los Angeles Caribbean community is in for a treat as they get to rub shoulders with their own.. CCH Pounder of Guyana, Karl Kani, Keith David and Sheryl Lee Ralph are just a few of Caribbean Hollywood who have been invited.
With the heated interest in world class wonder micro-sculptor Willard Wigan who will be featured on Good Morning America on June 1th, plans are for a blue carpet opening to rival the BET Awards.
This June 2009, marks the fourth national celebrations of June as Caribbean American Heritage Month and the first under President Barack Obama. The Caribbean American community in the US is estimated at around 5 million. Given the current political and economic environment, the commemoration of June as National Caribbean American Heritage Month which began in 1999, remain critical to ensure and make visible the Caribbean American voice and agenda.
